Contemporary dance is an expressive dance style that combines elements of such genres as classical ballet, jazz, lyrical dance and modern dance. It is characterized by improvisation and versatility and a greater range and fluidity of movement than conventional dance techniques. Contemporary dance places a heavy emphasis on the connection between mind and body, and helps practitioners develop their agility, balance, coordination, flexibility and strength while also enhancing bodily awareness and self-esteem. The style works with the body's natural lines and energy, making it safe and accessible for beginners while still allowing experienced dancers to push their boundaries. White Space hosts 90 minute-long contemporary dance classes every Monday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.
